WHAT'S NEW
- past, current & future -

It's about time we take photography seriously, and treat it as a hobby.

~Elliott Erwitt

In this section, I will be sharing events and happenings, as well as new galleries of commisioned and personal works containing images, most of which will be available for purchase. This year so far there are some exciting developments...

  • I have recently returned from a follow up shoot to Cambodia and KL where I did some extensive shooting on the ancient temples, Tonle Sap lake and some Monasteries. I met up with renowned American photographer, John McDermott in Siem Reap who will be handling some of my Asian work and we will be collaborating on workshops.
  • My two new workshops on Photoshop have been very popular and the 2008 workshops were booked out. ‘Photoshop Inspirations Revealed’ is a one day workshop for beginners or a refresher, while ‘Creative Photoshop Fine Art Techniques’ is a two day hands-on workshop revealing the techniques behind many of my award winning images. Wollaston college is the venue and the first of the 2009 dates are: Sundays Feb 1st , March 8th and 15th for the Inspirations Revealed course and March 21st and 22nd for the two day Fine Arts course. To reserve a place please email me on nick@nickmelidonis.com or ring me on 93364135
  • Bookings for the 2009 Greek Island Odyssey Tenth Anniversary tour have been very popular and it is almost booked out. The tour will again be jointly hosted by Costas Demetriades and myself through the University of Western Australia’s Extension Service. Please ring Nick Missikos of Harvey World Travel - East Perth +61(08) 9221 9977 to reserve your place. The next free information evening is on November 18 or see the calendar page for additional dates.
  • Light Fantastic 2009 is shaping up to be bigger and better and will be held on 21 & 22 February in Fremantle – Notre Dame Lecture Theatre, 38 Henry Street, (next to the Moores Building). Nick Melidonis and Dale Neill in collaboration with UWA Extension, the City of Fremantle, Team Digital, Camera Electronics and the WA Camera Clubs present a fascinating line-up of photographic talent including Lonely Planet Images’ Richard I'Anson, Kevin Lucas from Aussies in Action , Brent Acie on Colour, fine-art photographer Louise Mann and exciting new nature photographer Denis Glennon. For a detailed program, competition details/rules and venue location/parking details, please see the main Light Fantastic downloads page.
  • Following the 2009 Light Fantastic Photo Expo in Fremantle are two exciting one day workshops. These are separate events from Light Fantastic and are conducted by Nick Melidonis and Dale Neill - LEGENDS OF TRAVEL - World renowned travel photographer Richard I’Anson from Lonely Planet Images together with Australia’s current Landscape Photographer of the Year and passionate traveller, Nick Melidonis will present a full day’s seminar on their journeys and approach to capturing stunning travel, people and landscapes. This will be a one-off event not to be missed.
  • I’ve recently returned from a media shoot for Singapore Airlines to Singapore and Kerala in India. Joining me on the assignment were journalists and editors from the West Australian, Scoop Travel, Cravings & Travel Talk magazines and Journeys of the Spirit. View some samples HERE
  • The Andalusia, Flamenco, Moors and Tapas tour has recently returned and we enjoyed some amazing experiences from Granada to Seville. Due to a heavy schedule of projects I have next year, I will be unable to run another one in 2009 and will be reviewing a trip for 2010. View some samples HERE
  • I am over the moon in winning the 2008 AIPP ‘Australian Professional Landscape Photographer of the Year’ in June (and happy to say this is my third win). The 2008 Canon Australian Professional Photography Awards (APPAs) were held in Brisbane and are one of the most important events on the AIPP calendar. Professional photographers from Australia and New Zealand compete for a number of industry awards, which are judged by a panel of their peers. The category was sponsored by Kayell Canson. • Last year in December, fellow landscape photographer Frank Richardson and I had a great photoshoot in Cambodia with its amazing temples and the Tonle Sap lake. We are going back for another shoot in December this year and hope to offer a tour to this historic and vibrant region in 2009.
